Having an introduction that catches people’s attention is vital if you want them to listen.
Jim has this to say on Introductions…
“Introductions to films, songs or stand-up routines are really important in setting the tone for the rest of the experience. You wouldn’t get a chilled mellow song to have a heavy thrashing guitar intro… it wouldn’t flow and would create discomfort in the listener.
It’s the same with a movie… movie producers want there to be a defining peace of action in the first 5 – 10 minutes to establish the main story but also tell the audience what genre the movie is in.
Having a speech, whether a 60 second pitch or a 20 minute talk with a meandering introduction is the same as turning your volume down. The audience will turn off and you will struggle to get them back. By having a bold opening that clearly establishes your purpose, you can hold their attention and keep them hooked for however long you need to.”
